Question: Why do sociologists want to differentiate between gender and sexuality? [?m]
I talked about: from the sociological point of view, sexuality is a biological concept determined on the basis of primary sex characteristics. gender has social consequences.
But in fact, it is SEX that is a biological concept determined on the basis of primary sex characteristics, according to the textbook. not sexuality. question: so is sexuality=sex??? weiguang says i'm wrong. he says sexuality is your sexual orientation, whether you wanna be straight or gay or whatever.
From www.dictionary.com, sexuality is
1. The condition of being characterized and distinguished by sex.
2. Concern with or interest in sexual activity.
3. Sexual character or potency.
If it is 1. The condition of being characterized and distinguished by sex. , then sexuality is The condition of being characterized and distinguished by a biological concept determined on the basis of primary sex characteristics. then i'm correct what! if you are male, society would expect you to be masculine but no you could be a sissy.
But if it is 2. Concern with or interest in sexual activity. do i write about how your level of interest in sexual activities differs from that of society's expectations? ewww....
So if it is 3. Sexual character or potency. , it matches with what weiguang said. but what you mean potency?? what is the socially normal level of potency? hur? no link!
Therefore i insist that i'm right ok. hmmph. but if i fail my sociaology paper you'll know why.
I recently cut my hair! with bangs. with a lot of bangs. ee ling says i look like chinadoll. hmmph she must be exaggerating. i thought i merely look a bit more geekish. chenchen says i look younger. i think she means more kiddish. gina.
Anyway people have been asking me this question a lot:" eh you cut your hair ah?" duh. but it's ok. i understand that people just wanna make conversation, so i often refrain from making wisecracks like:" no it dropped."
There was once i tried to make conversation with this guy from hall who shaved his head.
Me: eh you shaved ah?
Him: huh? no i didn't.
After 2 seconds.....
He touched his head...
Him: GASP! oh no i did!!!
Wahaha.... way to go i thought that was damn cute! =D
